Gergely Orosz, writing at The Pragmatic Engineer, on Meta’s AI cultural revolution after reappraising engineering from profit center to cost center:

It’s a strange incentive where an outage caused by a failure to review code properly is not grounds for dismissal, but writing code by hand – instead of having an AI agent write it – could cost you your job.

Meta told engineers they were being enrolled into a system that tracks every keystroke and click, to produce training data for Meta’s new AI. There’s no way to opt out.

It seems like the old mantra of “move fast and break things” has now extended to Meta’s engineering org itself.
